Herein contains the writings – magical and mundane, as well as a few sketches – of the Sorcerer Iago of Danothos, heir apparent to Danothos Barony, and advisor to Baron Yorick.

Soliloquy by Midnight Syndicate is Iago’s journal-writing theme.))

I, Iago of Danothos, claim this tome for my own, as prescribed by my master, Master Melanthios, who hails from a land I can hardly pronounce let alone letter into this book. My time upon this earth is a grand total of fifteen years. However, for five out of that number, I was known as Tybalt.
How I doth hate that name... ask me not why.
My master shall attest that I am, in fact, the Tybalt of Danothos, son of Baron Yorick, as credential so that I might one day ensure Danothos a focus of government.
[a messy signature reads ‘Melanthios of Ahihrognesacenadh’]
Master Melanthios hath given me this empty tome to fill of my own learnings to the ways of his craft, as well as any thoughts or dreams I may have.
I shall endeavor to do as he asks of me, though I confess great trepidation at giving my mind’s all to the safety of this tome. So easily couldst it be compromised...

I have won over the Baron Yorick’s trust so that now I may endeavor to find a way to increase his longevity. In all’s truth I already have the knowledge, but have not the gall to give the old man what he desires. I desired my family and yet it was torn from me not once but twice! The usurper hath waited all this time, another decade won’t kill him.
Or would it?
Perhaps I shall just let the events unfold, with ignorance held to mine eyes as to the “good” Baron’s slowly declining health. Perhaps... then he might keeleth over. It would ruin my own chances to gain the same near-immortality as he wouldst possess – a small price to see for myself the light leave Yorick’s eyes and one I shalt be willing to sacrifice.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He still hath not keeled over.

The day doth passes quickly, and yet his passing refuses to follow time’s example.

I grow weary of waiting, and Baron Yorick is becoming exceedingly impatient with me. T’would look like I have no more cards in my hand that I might salvage in this game of chance. Yet in the light of his longevity, so too will my life be granted many long years. I needn’t even sacrifice mortality even temporarily to accomplish mine goal...
Vengeance shall be sweet, once the time comes to partake of it.

Baron Yorick has seen to it to deem me his representative Ambassador to the dukedom of Atticus. I am to ride there upon the morrow. Not certain what to expect in this new, rather unexpected role.

Behold!
But alas, the sketch does very little to convey the heart-stopping beauty of the woman from my dream this night’s passed. I know not who she is, never having seen a woman with such grace and charm. Such pale complexion set against raven hair... the moon upon a clear midnight sky.
We are about three days’ journey away from the palace of Duke Posol. Yes, I hath wrote ‘we’. For, despite my repeated claims of self-sufficiency, the Baron saw fit to have me escorted by at least one guard. Honestly... I hath magic to protect me! A mere look from me to these oafs could render their flesh cascading like apricot-coloured water off the cliffs of alabaster bone!
Such pretty poetic words I should not waste herein this tome, for none but I shall read it. Yet, even still, it gives me notion I had not – until recently – considered.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I write tonight to honour the deaths of the two guards whom accompanied me nearly all the way to Atticus. Alas, however, they were captured, tortured, and killed by foul half-beasts returning from their own long journeys to the darkforests. I have slain the beasts as retribution, and continue my journey alone.
Does that not sound a pleasant story for a book? Too bad tis not at all the full truth of my clever plan. The poetry of my last entry hath nearly been achieved.
Their bones follow me in their death as my guards, but shall never speak a treacherous word – be it falsehood or truth – about me to Lord Yorick.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Duchess of Atticus is the woman from my dream, I have learned this day. I met her upon being received by Duke Posol Vander-Gilt, per my new duty as ambassador to this region. He is most generous, and declared a celebration in my honour. I couldn’t help but notice this mystery woman... this ... words fail me in describing her aptly. Does she, unlike her husband, suspect me of dark sorcery? Her gaze has been furtive but steady and I have noticed.
I confess myself intrigued.
